The Nigerian academy of pharmacy on Tuesday lunched the Young Pharmacist Mentoring Programme in Lagos.The academy, which is made up of pharmacists who have gathered experience and exposure and are at the very leadership of the profession, has set an agenda to provide leadership thought to guide the profession and younger ones who just qualified and are looking forward to their future.
Chairman of the academy, prince Adelusi-Adeluyi charged young pharmacist to to dare to stand out, he urged them not to put money first before the profession, and the need to network with older, younger and contemporary pharmacists as mentoring can also be gotten from your pairs. In his opening remarks, He, “a profession that doesn’t take care of his young people doesn’t have a future” This was the main reason, the Nigeria Academy of Pharmacy with other stakeholders organised this mentoring programme to equip our young ones for the future. The former Minister of Health advised young Pharmacists to seek health, happiness, success, significance and the amazing Grace of God.
Speaking at the occasion, the president pharmaceutical society of Nigeria PSN, Alhaji A. Yakassi, who flew in from Dubai where he participated in the programme for the laudable initiative to attend the program, advised young pharmacists to be humble, honest, innovative, focused, respectful to all( mutual respect) , accountable responsible, determined and admonished all to be very careful on the way we comment on social media platforms as it can have its consequences. According to him, it is unethical and unbecoming of a pharmacist to use abusive words on his professional colleague. We must express the highest standards of professionalism as real professionals and not to be no different in character and characteristics from quacks. He also said he is working with investors who would invest in community practice, whereby, young pharmacist with interest in pharmacy would given goods worth up to 5million for start up.
The registrar pharmacist council of Nigeria, pharmacist NAE Mohammed, at the occasion took the young lads down memory lane,he advised them not to participate in any form malpractice, or professional misconduct. According to the registrar, by 2017, registration would be fully online.
The chairman of JUHEL pharmaceuticals, Dr.Pharm Ifeanyi Okoye and pharm Lekan Asuni, MD, GSK Nigeria,where present and inspired the young pharmacists. The community pharmacy guru, who is also the treasurer of the academy, Dr. Ike onyechi, Chairman Alfa Pharmacy, also inspired the future generation of the profession.
