Last Monday ,we talked about dispensing a multi vitamin to three different people with three different condition, today,we look at that vitamin
Pyridoxine, Vitamin B6 serves as a prodrug in the management of emesis in pregnancy often in combination with doxylamine. Its metabolite pyridoxal-5- phosphate has been linked to this effect. Pyridoxine-dependent epilepsy is not responsive to regular anti-epileptic drugs and so people with this condition are heavily supplemented with daily doses of vitamin B6.
Women who take OCTs often have depleted levels of pyridoxine which makes them experience mood disorders. The vitamin has been shown to help in some cases. Let’s not forget its use in peripheral neuropathy often resulting from drug use such as Isoniazid, antineoplastics and in diabetic conditions.
